Yesterday, as my kids sat at the kitchen counter, I nonchalantly asked them what they were going to ask Santa for this year. This is my attempt to be ahead of the game for once and get an early start on my Christmas shopping.
Luke and Ryan rhymed off the entire "boy toy" isle, which I tuned out since it was really Jaina's gift I was most interested in, the boys are a piece of cake. She looked up and said, "Mom, I am not gonna to tell YOU, I want to know if Santa is really real."
I was totally caught off guard, I mean she is only 7 years old! Who is putting the idea in her mind that Santa is anything but 100% real??? When I find out, we will have a little chat, so I just said, "Huh?"
Then she asked me if I would tell her the truth about whether or not Mom's and Dad's just bought the presents. I promptly lied and said that we did not. ( I didn't flinch, I didn't think twice, I just lied.)
Anyway, after getting my lie behind me I said, "That's alright Sweetheart, you don't have to tell me, but just remember...Santa only comes to kids who believe in him." That got her attention and she blurted out, "I DO BELIEVE, MOM! I BELIEVE IN SANTA! I'll tell you!"
Whew. That was a close call. Now, I just need to find out which little party pooper is spreading the rumor about Santa being Mom and Dad. It is probably Luiz, who wonders if I am a lesbian. He's got big ideas.

I can't stop laughing about your final comment! There are tears falling down my face right now!
Luke asked me the same is Santa real question a couple of months ago. I took a page out of Callene's book and asked him right back (so I didn't have to lie) "What do you think?" Luckily he's young enough to answer back, "I think he's real".
I don't like it that kids don't want to believe anymore. I've been told about a great book that compares the Santa story with the Real Meaning of Christmas, but I can't remember the title. When I find it, I'll let you know.
I loved hearing that story yesterday... I mean realy you need to find the party pooper I hate when things get ruined for kids.... Hey I still believe in santa and hope every year he comes to me but no luck yet I guess I am just to naughty.... Thanks for a great lunch yesterday and for putting up with my childrens tantrums....
That's WAY too young!!! Of course Santa is real! I love that you didn't even flinch. Awesome!
